Access Tokens

System to system API access (service account users only)

Note This topic only applies to users with one of the following ExamDeveloper permissions:

  • API service account: These users can export item content and/or keys via the All Data API.
  • API service account NC: These users cannot view or export any item content or keys.

View API documentation

  1. Upon logging in to ExamDeveloper, you'll be taken to the Access token page.
  2. Click the link at the top of the API links section to open Swagger documentation. Note If you have only service account permissions, you will not see any tabs in the API links section (On demand, Asynchronous, and System to system tabs are not shown).

Generate a new token

Note A new token will remain active for at least 30 days, unless it is deactivated (see below ↓) or an item bank manager locks it. The token's expiration date will be extended by 30 days each time it is used. ('Used' refers to each time the data is refreshed in your spreadsheet, dashboard, etc.)

However, you must generate a new token every 90 days regardless of your current token's expiration date or status.

  1. Click Generate new token in the upper-right corner of the Access token page.
  2. A success message is shown at the top of the page and the token is displayed in the Access token section.

Copy the access token

Note You can only copy the token from this page immediately after it is generated. Once you close, refresh, or navigate away from the current page, you will no longer be able to copy the token.

  1. The token is shown at the top of the Access token page. When you are ready to use the token, click copy next to the token.
  2. Follow the steps on this page for information about connecting OData in Microsoft Excel.

Deactivate your current token

Note Once a token is deactivated, it can no longer be used. (The same token cannot be reactivated.) A new token must be generated the next time the data is refreshed.

  1. From the Access Token page, click Deactivate.
  2. The token status will now show as "Deactivated".
    1. If you attempt to refresh the data in your external report or dashboard, you will get an error. You must generate a new token before you can refresh the data again.
